We have built everything from simple spreadsheets that manage a group’s vacation time to extremely large, complex financial models, and everything in between. Analysis, Feedback and Recommendation
Many spreadsheets could be improved, and many users could make needed improvements if they only knew where to focus and how to do it. This is “our teach a person to fish” service. We can quickly analyze a spreadsheet and identify: (1) how it can be improved, (2) what skills the creator may need to build better spreadsheets, and (3) recommend a course of action to modify the spreadsheet. We can then coach the user on how to make the changes and suggest techniques to improve the user’s Excel skills. Of course, we can also make the changes if the client prefers.
Data Management
Excel is great tool to manipulate large volumes of data, including performing data validation and clean-up. We use formulas and Excel VBA to quickly cycle through hundreds, thousands or millions of records and make whatever data changes are required. We build if-then logic into our solutions that intelligently determines the changes that are required. We can usually create solutions that can manipulate large volumes of data in a matter of seconds, while eliminating the risk of errors.
Dashboard Approach
We implement dashboards into most of our Excel solutions that allow the user to manage and launch the various features of each spreadsheet from a single sheet. By combining our design expertise with dashboards, we are able to build in flexibility that reduces the amount or rework that is required when the client needs simple changes. Bullet Proofing
Many spreadsheet are designed to be used by a team of users who make structural changes to each spreadsheet to meet their needs, for example, by adding rows or columns. Unless done correctly, these structural changes can introduce errors to formulas and other functionality. We use protection features, forms, formulas and Excel VBA to manage structural changes and eliminate the risk of error. By eliminating the chance or human error, many clients are able to continue to use Excel to meet business needs instead of converting to more expensive systems.
Video Training
The most effective training teaches students by showing them how to perform a task. And the best training shows how to perform a tasks the same way every time. We utilize screen capture software to create video files that show users how to perform any task in Excel. Here’s how it works. We perform a given task in Excel while explaining exactly what is being done. The screen visualization part of the screen capture software captures every task being performed in Excel while the audio part captures the voice explanation. Users can then view the video as many times as they want without the services of the trainer. Many Excel consulting companies provide training services but once the Excel consultant or Excel programmer is gone the benefits of training stop. Not with our video training services!
Data Mining and Analysis
Excel provides SQL tools that allow users to query, analyze and manipulate data in relational database systems, such as Microsoft Access and Microsoft SQL Server. Excel can then analyze and report on data in other systems, often much more quickly than in the systems where the data is stored. We use the SQL query language to perform all manner of data mining and analysis services.
